Sep 25 2008, 2:31 PM EDT
This thread is a reflective log of activities, thoughts and experiences of being a tutor supporting the eTutor modules. It will track the progress of both module development and module learner support as the project progresses. It will be a contribution to the project/module evaluation process. In general this site as a portal to online learning is looking very promising, although the plug-ins for multi-media and communications look limited at present. A bit of experimentation on this page needed I think.

I suppose we will all eventually get rss feeds to our own environment and then be very delective what we log onto. This site is already blocked by our inhouse filter. I suspect because of a recent new member who as used a name open to mis interpretation. Why do people what this sort of anonimity? I will not continue unless I know who I am speaking with. Anyhow just my thoughts. Angelo Conti 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Very good point Angelo. From the point of view of a learning environment, we certainly want real names anyway.Yes, it is a new platform, but that's inevitable really, given that part of the project is to experiment with new platforms! I agree that rss feeds may be the way to selectively and efficiently access sites. Do you find this valuable? |

Yes it is interesting how we consume content like this. Certainly I might not have seen the discussion if I had not had it on my 'Watch List' and got the weekly e-mail to remind me about it. There are a number of Moodles I engage with in the same way. So rss - our e-mail depending which medium fits the needs - truly personalised learning. Do you find this valuable? |

Well, the first module trial is coming to an end and the second is beginning (today). There have been a number of issues raised both about the learning design approach and about the use of Wetpaint as a delivery system. Everyone's comments have been very helpful and it is clear that there were plenty of conceptual and operational barriers for the group to deal with! I'm grateful to everyone who persevered and will be synthesising and summarising the outcomes for comment this week. The new module starting today has been constructed by James Williams and uses mind mapping rather than concept mapping in the way the syllabus/curriculum is represented. It also uses Ning as a delivery system rather than Wetpaint. It will provide a valuable comparison of approaches as we move to the end of the first experimental period in December. The plan is to draw messages and lessons from both trial delivery exercises and to relaunch for further trials in January. Part of the evaluation will be a structured investigation of the effectiveness of customised search engines at identifying learning resources and reflections on discovery learning methods. The roles and relationships of the tutor and learners will be central to this. Do you find this valuable? |
